Summer
You may hear “Luge” and think there are only winter activities at Muskegon Luge and Adventure Sports Park, but that is very far from the truth. There are so many fun summer things to do that you simply won’t want to miss!
Hop aboard a sled with in-line wheels on the bottom to experience the wheel luge at Muskegon Luge! This summer track will have you luging over 320 ft of track, including two curves you will have to steer through. You don’t want to miss this track as it is the only one of its kind in North America.
If you want to learn how to shoot a compound bow, you will want to check out the archery course at Muskegon Luge. Participants will learn how to properly handle and shoot a compound bow at both bag and 3D targets. With the help of their knowledgeable archery instructors, you will be hitting the bullseye in no time!
Muskegon Luge recommends that participants can have a full understanding of instruction as well as be able to extend their arms while holding a 5lb bow for up to 30 seconds – this is usually suitable for children aged 7 and up. Adults are also welcome to participate, as bows are available for all sizes.
Fly through the air with the greatest of ease on Muskegon Luge’s 1400ft dual zip line. Grab a friend and strap in for a memorable ride as you race side by side from the top of a Lake Michigan sand dune through the treetops of a white pine and oak forest! Feel the warm Michigan wind in your face while you reach speeds of up to 25 mph!
Chill Garden
Need to take a break from the high-speed activities at Muskegon Luge? Head to the Chill Garden and do just that. Take a rest in a hammock before your next activity, or try your balance on the slack line. They even have yard games for your enjoyment. The Chill Garden is a great place to stop and regroup before your next adventure!
Lace up your hiking boots and jump on one (or more) of the trails at Muskegon Luge. With four different trails to choose from, hikers of all abilities are sure to find a trail for them, including those who need mobility assistance! If you want to add more challenge and excitement to your hike, you will want to play Trail Quest while at Muskegon Luge. Put your problem-solving skills to the test on the hiking trails that spread over 300 acres of Muskegon State Park in this escape room-inspired game!
Each team gets a map with checkpoints that will be throughout the Sports Complex. At each checkpoint, there is a locked box with a token inside that is worth points. To unlock the box, you will have to solve a riddle with clues that you find along the way! Be the team to solve the most clues and collect the most points in a set amount of time to win!
Adaptive Hiking and Universal Accessibility
Perhaps one of the greatest things about Muskegon Luge is they strive to include everyone in their park regardless of disabilities. All the activities found at Muskegon Luge are adaptable, including the hiking trails and Trail Quest. The park also has a track chair available upon request to assist those that may need mobility assistance.

As soon as the Michigan snow flies, Muskegon Luge and Adventure Sports Park get prepped to provide a variety of fun winter activities! Including winter luge, ice skating, winter hikes, and so much more.
Experience one of only four luge tracks in the United States right here in Michigan at Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park! Better yet, it is the only artificial track that is made from artificial ice and not refrigerated – How cool is that? Participants are given equipment and training before embarking on this Olympian designed 850 ft track, including six curves! Feel like you are in the Winter Olympics as the winter air kisses your cheeks at speeds of up to 30 mph!

Grab your skates and hit the rink for some good old-fashioned ice skating and hockey! Muskegon Luge’s ice-skating rink is built using the winter air to freeze water which makes the rink. Enjoy a nice skate under the winter sky and a lighted rink in the family skating zone, or bring your sticks and pucks for a little friendly hockey game.
Skate through the Woods
Skip skating in a circle and skate through the woods instead! Embark on a 1/4-mile ice skating trail through the white pine forest. Don’t want to stop when the sun sets? Have no fear, the trail is lighted every night – Perfect for a family night skate or date night!

Explore Muskegon State Park in the winter as you maneuver through the trails while cross-country skiing! The majority of the terrain allows for a gentile ski through the woods, dunes, and Lost Lake. However, if you are in for a challenge, you will want to try Spencer’s Advanced Trail or Verna’s Classic Backwoods Trail. The trails are groomed daily, if weather permits, and accommodate both gliding and skate skiing! All trails are lighted every night until the park closes, so you can pack in as much fun on the winter days.
Easy to Advanced Trails
Our ski trails are well marked, and easy-to-read trail maps are provided with a trail pass. The complex has five different trail systems for all level skiers. Start on an easy, flat trail like the 2.5-kilometer White Night Trail. Our 5-kilometer Lost Lake Trail will take you up on the dune ridge and down to Lost Lake. You can work your way up to Spencer’s Advanced 2 Kilometer Trail or Verna’s Classic Backwoods Trail for a challenge.
Gain access to some breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and Muskegon lake when you snowshoe the trails at Muskegon Luge. The trail system is made up of four loops ranging in difficulty. If you are up for a challenge, you will want to be sure to try Highlands Loop for a great view of Lake Michigan from atop a sand dune! All of the trails are groomed and marked to help guide you along your way. Although the snowshoeing trails are not lighted, they are easily accessible with a quality headlamp.

The Saugatuck Venetian Festival is a week-long celebration of summer that features a dazzling fireworks display over the Kalamazoo River. The reflections of the fireworks in the water add a touch of magic to an already enchanting event. Bring a blanket or a chair and find a spot at one of the great parks: Cook Park, Coghlin Park, Wade’s Bayou, and Wick’s Park. The website say; “The crowd-pleasing 1980s cover band “StarFarm” has been booked to perform again on Friday night of the festival. On Saturday, annual favorites include the dinghy poker run and the return of a lighted boat parade & fireworks. This year’s theme of Country Venetian will be on full display all weekend!”

Parades and Memorials
Honor our fallen soldiers at one of the many parades and memorials that are being held around West Michigan on Memorial Day. Scroll below to see the different locations!
Although the parade begins at 10 a.m., guests can enjoy a pancake breakfast at the Hickory Corners Fire Department from 7-9:30 a.m. The parade plans to start on the west end of town near Cadwallader Park, and march through town to the East Hickory Corners Cemetery. Highlights include Shriner’s Mini-T’s, and the Gull Lake and Delton High School bands. Memorial services will be held at East Hickory Corners Cemetery following the parade, with guest speaker Retired Colonel Frank J. Walker and a flyover included.
A pulled pork and hot dog lunch is scheduled to be held at Simmonds-Williams American Legion Post 484. Before the parade, attendees can partake in a Memorial Day pancake breakfast at Hickory Corners Fire Department and Fire Club from 7-9:30 a.m.

Memorial Day Parade
Friday, May 26 – St. Joseph is scheduled to host its annual downtown Memorial Day parade on May 26. The parade is anticipated to begin at 12 p.m., and will travel along Lake Boulevard from Park Street to Port Street. A short memorial ceremony at John E.N. Howard Bandshell is slated to be held after the parade. Veterans and active-duty military are welcomed to walk or ride in the parade. Those interested are asked to call the St. Joe Today office at 269-985-1111, or fill out a form online.
Buchanan Memorial Day Parade
Monday, May 29 – Buchanan is scheduled to hold a Memorial Day parade Monday at 10 a.m. The parade will line up at DT Buchanan, and end in the Buchanan Cemetery.

Monday, May 29 – Union City Memorial Day Parade & Cemetery Service
A Memorial Day parade is scheduled to be held in Union City Monday starting at 10:30 a.m. The parade will begin at Union City High School on St. Joseph Street, and will travel through downtown, ending at Riverside Cemetery. It will pause at the North Broadway Street Bridge for a ceremony honoring the Navy and Coast Guard, and will pause for a wreath laying at Veterans Memorial Park, as well as at the First Congregational Church Civil War memorial. A pancake breakfast will be held at the Fire Hall from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Veterans and children under five can attend for free, kids 5-12 can attend for $4, and everyone aged 13 and older can attend for $8. More information can be found online.
The Holland Memorial Day Parade starts at 9:30a.m. on May 26, and starts on 8TH and central. The parade will conclude at the Pilgrim Home Cemetery where there will be a small ceremony held of remembrance and music. You can see their Facebook for more info.

Head to Muskegon on Monday, May 30 for the Greater Muskegon Memorial Day Parade. The parade starts at 9 a.m. on Morris Ave and ends at Hackley Park. Following the parade will be a free public event – Musical Memorial Day Ceremony in Fauenthal Center featuring the Mona Shores High School Marching Band. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Following the parade, enjoy a free musical ceremony featuring the Mona Shores Marching Band at the beautiful Frauenthal Center.
The SS Milwaukee Clipper in Muskegon will be having their Memorial Day Party on May 28 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $10 and food will be available for $5.
The Lions Club of Middleville will be holding their Memorial Day Parade on May 30 on Main Street at 10:30 a.m. If you want to grab breakfast before the parade, UMC is having a pancake breakfast from 8-10 a.m.
Walker Memorial Day Parade Walker’s annual Memorial Day Parade starts at noon on Monday, May 26th at NOON, located at Walker City Hall and continues down Remembrance Rd.
Cascade Township Memorial Day Program Cascade Township is holding its Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 26, at 10 a.m. outside of the Kent District Library – Cascade Branch.
Wyoming Memorial Day Ceremony Wyoming will be holding their Memorial Day Ceremony in Wyoming Veterans Memorial Garden (2300 DeHoop Ave. SW) on Monday, May 30 from 7 – 8 p.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive early as well as bring a blanket or lawn chair.
Beaches
With Memorial Day being the unofficial start to summer, it is a great time to check out some of the great beaches and bodies of water that West Michigan has to offer. Here are some of our favorite spots to dip your toes in the sand and catch some rays on Memorial Day in West Michigan.
Holland State Park – offering not one but two beaches, head to Holland State Park and enjoy Ottawa beach on Lake Michigan. Ottawa beach has modern bathrooms, a café with a beach shop, a playground, and picnic areas with grills.
On the other side of the park is the Lake Macatawa Beach area. A more tranquil beach along Lake Macatawa offers bathrooms, picnic areas with grills, and kayak/paddleboard rentals. Both beaches are unique in their way and worth a visit.

Grand Haven State Park – Grand Haven State Park has a great sugar sand beach on Lake Michigan, offering a playground, and modern bathrooms, and is located within walking distance of many of the great restaurants and shops Grand Haven has to offer.

Muskegon State Park – Muskegon State Park is home to over two miles of sandy shoreline on Lake Michigan, a perfect way to celebrate Memorial Day in West Michigan.

Hoffmaster State Park – In Norton Shores, Hoffmaster State Park offers two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline with two separate designated swimming areas. Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach outside of designated swimming areas.
Millennium Park – Millenium Park is in Walker and is a great option for kids on Memorial Day in Grand Rapids. Millennium Park has a huge beach on Millenium Park Lake, a splash pad for kids, a playground, picnic areas, and boat rentals.
Versluis Park – Versluis Park is on a man-made 50-acre lake in Belmont with a beach, playground, picnic area, and fishing.

Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park
Located on 80 acres of land, the Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park provides a unique, hands-on way to experience wildlife. Farmers Markets
Farmers Markets begin to reopen in the Spring and there are many must-see markets around West Michigan. Many not only offer fresh, locally grown produce but also handmade goods and delicious take-home food items. Below are just a few of the larger Farmer’s Markets, but make sure to check your local city page to see if and when theirs is available.
Fulton Street
Established in 1922, this Market has been serving the West Michigan community for 100 years. With roughly 118 outdoor booths and some additional inside booths, there is plenty to see and buy at this market. Main Market Season begins around the first week of May and goes through October. Market hours are Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 am-2 pm. Parking is limited at the market, but additional parking can be found within walking distance of the Market.
Rockford
Located on South Main St. in Rockford Michigan, this farmer’s market opens for the season at the beginning of May and runs through October. Only open on Saturdays from 8 am-1 pm, make sure to stop down and get your fresh vegetables, fruits, baked goods, and more.
Holland
Located on 8th street in downtown Holland, this market opens for the season in the middle of May after Tulip Time. The market is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 am-2 pm. This Farmer’s Market offers fresh produce, baked goods, plants & flowers, and a food court.

Morel Mushroom Hunting
There are over 2,000 kinds of wild mushrooms in the mitten state, morels are among the safest. May is prime hunting month. Typical locations and signs include wooded areas, especially around dying or dead trees, sometimes in fields, landscaping mulch, and old orchards. They grow best in daytime temps of at least 50 degrees and nighttime temps of at least 40 degrees. Dampness is best for them to grow so with all these factors, springtime is perfect for them to thrive.
This festival takes place annually in early May. This year is the festival’s 65th round and it runs May 10-12. Enjoy a variety of events at this festival including; hunting for mushrooms, Blessing of the Jeeps, food of all kinds, concerts, kids’ events, a grand parade, and much more.

Ivanrest Church’s annual community Easter Eggstravaganza will be Saturday, April 19th at 10:30 AM. This family fun event will begin on the front lawn with an Easter egg hunt for kids ages 1-10. Following the egg hunt, join us in the West Wing for crafts, snacks, face painting and a special story time! Feel free to invite your family, friends, and neighbors.
Please join Chandler Woods for their annual Spring Egg Hunt on April 18th, for kids 12 and under. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park: Stage Plaza, families can take part in a variety of activities including the 24 Karrot Trail, where children under nine can scavenge for eggs containing candy or prizes.
A special “golden karrot” egg will even score some lucky kids a unique prize, according to a recent press release. But that’s not all the Easter bunny has in store. Do an egg hunt while spending time with some adoptable kitties! Whether or not you are considering adopting, it is a great way to make the cats feel loved and to let kids have a great time as well.
Thornapple’s favorite annual event of the year is back! Egg hunts are split into two sessions, A and B, starting at 9:30 and then 11am.
In 2022, they hid over 10,600 eggs on their property and handed out over 250 prizes. This is a free event, however they will be collecting donations ****if you feel led! All donations collected will go towards their summer camp program, Camp Thornapple. Funds will help subsidize the cost so kids can participate in classes at half the cost (or less!) of their value. Donations also help fully cover the cost for any child who wants to participate but can’t due to financial restraints.
Make sure to remember to redeem your prizes and keep your eggs to recycle later!

There is a wonderful Easter Egg Hunt Event coming to the Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding on Saturday, April 19th, 2025. If you are looking for a day of breakfast treats, face-painting, horse-drawn wagon rides, Easter egg hunts, photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, live music, and meeting all kinds of therapy horses big and small, then you need to visit Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding’s “Easter with the Equest Bunny” event. This all-out event will keep the kids moving, having a blast, and is sure to be different from all the rest!
We are egg-cited to invite you to join us Saturday, April 8th from 11am-1pm for a FREE family fun event at South Harbor Church. There will be endless activities for all ages including photos with the Easter Bunny, inflatables, carnival games, air brush tattoos, a photo booth, carnival food and an Easter egg scavenger hunt! Join JCI South Kent for our Easter Egg Scramble on April 8th, 2023!
The scramble will be held at Lamar Park on the soccer fields. This event is free for the community. The Easter Bunny will also be in attendance!

The displays tell the story of how the Dutch found the tulip being cultivated in Turkey, brought them home to the Netherlands where they blossomed into a cultural craze, and, finally, came to be celebrated as part of Holland, Michigan’s heritage in the Tulip Time Festival. Another part to the display is the incorporation of history and living beauty sharing the story of the delft artwork the Dutch are famous for. This is a must see exhibit at this renown annual spring festival.

Calling all photography enthusiasts! Tulip Time invites you to embark on a unique journey through one of Holland’s most iconic attractions, guided by professional photographers, away from the hustle and bustle of crowds. Join local photographers for a captivating photo walk on Windmill Island, home to the renowned DeZwaan Windmill, picturesque Dutch scenes, and 40 stunning beds of tulips. Gain valuable insights and techniques from our expert guides as they share their expertise on capturing the beauty of Windmill Island Gardens.
Participants of the Tulip Time Photo Walk will have the opportunity to submit one (1) photo taken during the class for consideration as the Best Picture. Each class will feature one winner, whose work will be showcased in Tulip Time’s social media posts. Further details on photo submission and winner announcements will be provided at the conclusion of each class.
Meet your fellow participants at least 5 minutes prior to the class start time at the entrance booth in the parking lot of Windmill Island Gardens. Come rain or shine, please dress accordingly, and don’t forget to bring your own photography equipment for this memorable experience. During the 2024 Tulip Time Festival (May 4 – 12),guests are invited to visit the beautiful Van Raalte Farm at 1076 East 16th Street in Holland and to view the tulips beneath “The Maples” for the first time ever! The outdoor property is open daily from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm for visitors to walk the trails.
The Holland Parks and Recreation Commission is also offering guided tours of the historic Van Raalte farmhouse and barns during the 2024 Tulip Time Festival. Tour the home, appointed in period furnishings, while learning all about the Van Raaltes, Holland’s founding family, from a guide. Tours of the farmhouse and barns are free, but tickets are required and space is limited.
Visitors should park in the designated Van Raalte Farm parking lot on 16th Street to tour the property and the farmhouse. Please contact the City Parks Department at 616-928-2450 with questions. (Office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.) Please note that this tour is not handicap accessible due to the historic nature of the farmhouse and barn and that uphill walking is required.
Each person gets a pair of headphones as they go through a guided tour by your historically costumed tour professional. There will be lots of opportunities for photos and close encounters with exhibits you wouldn’t otherwise have access to! Tulip Time Run

Experience the beauty of Holland as you run through the tulip-lined streets! The Tulip Time Run offers an event for everyone — a 5K, 10K and Kids’ Fun Run. And, back again, is the Tulip Time Virtual Run. If you cannot make it to Holland, Michigan for the Tulip Time Festival, run a 5K or 10K as your schedule permits, on any course of your choosing. Go aboard the tall ship Friends Good Will, a replica Great Lakes sloop from 1810 owned and operated by the Michigan Maritime Museum. Dutch heritage is deeply intertwined with water, trade and the art of sailing, so step aboard history and explore. The Museum strives to interpret, preserve and teach maritime heritage here in the Great Lakes region by offering daily dockside tours of this remarkable and historic ship.

The Gentex Kinderparade (children’s parade) is a time-honored favorite. Elementary school children will line up with their teachers and school administrators in full costume and smiling faces as they march together through downtown Holland. Each school and grade will have their own theme that nods to the towns’ Dutch heritage, from Dutch agriculture to the Dutch Master’s painters. Dozens of bands from West Michigan middle and high schools showcase their talents amid the community floats through downtown Holland. The adorable Dutch Dogs join in the fun too! As part of the Kinderparade on Thursday, May 11, 2024 we’re inviting all our hometown dogs to dress in their Dutch costumes (no inspection needed!) and strut their stuff! Holland loves their pups and our pups love a parade. To our canine klompers – it’s OK to skip the wooden shoes! All well-behaved dogs (and owners) are encouraged to participate!
GUIDELINES
All dogs must be registered online by April 24, no day-of registration.
Have one adult (18 and over) per dog, one guest allowed per adult.
Leash your dog the entire parade (flex leads and shock collars are not permitted). Dog must be able to walk entire length of parade (1.5 miles) or be carried.
Have rabies certificate or proof of vaccine for your dog.
Have your dog in Dutch duds. Dutch costume optional for owners.
Be prepared to pick up after your dog before and during the parade.
Be fine with many people taking pictures of you and your pooch!
Dogs must be well-behaved and able to be around large crowds, children and other dogs.

FiddleFire is performing for their 10th year at Tulip Time. Built from members and friends of the musical Panning Family, they return to share their exceptional talent, humor, and charm with sold-out crowds. This band performs a virtuosic variety of genres with its own folksy twist; bringing diverse instrumentation with fiddles, guitar, bass, mandolin, percussion and percussive clogging! You’ll feel like a part of the family during this entertaining evening full of foot stomping and light-hearted storytelling.
Founded by the Willard G. Leenhouts American Legion Post 6 in Holland, Michigan in 1920, the American Legion Band is filled with prolific musicians who have performed in the Holland community, across the state, country, and the world.
One of Tulip Time’s most entertaining and colorful spectacles! Authentically costumed young dancers (in 3rd–8th grade) come together to klomp and whirl their way through traditional dances. Bring the family to see these talented kiddos dancing to traditional music!

Experience the top 20 finalists in our 2024 First Bloem artwork competition! See the winner and the rest of the 19 finalists up close, all celebrating the joy of Tulip Time. You can participate in the Viewers’ Choice Awards by voting for your favorite image at the exhibit. Next to these 20 pieces of contemporary art, traditional Dutch costumes will be on display for visitors to study up close!
Enjoy a unique display of over 100 exquisite quilts, wall hangings and art quilts. Local artists provide all of the creations that are beautifully displayed. Every cut, every stitch, every pattern will showcase the quilter’s skill and experience in this increasingly rare craft. Attendees will also be able to purchase raffle tickets on-site for a chance to win a one-of-a-kind quilt, made specifically to commemorate this year’s festival. More details and preview of the raffle quilt will be available in the spring.
The annual Artisan Market brings together over two hundred vendors to highlight their artisanship and sell unique, hard-to-find items. Vendors are carefully selected and screened by Tulip Time to ensure they are high-quality.

Huisman Flowers’ award-winning floral designers will teach you the art of floral arranging as you create your own beautiful floral masterpiece to take home. This is a fun, hands-on experience at their beautiful Holland flower shop location, where you can browse through a vast assortment of occasion themed gifts. Windmill Island Gardens
Make sure to enjoy the rich color palette and history that Windmill Island Gardens holds. Tour the only authentic Dutch windmill that is still operating in the United States and make sure to purchase some of the flour ground right in the windmill from locally grown wheat. Experience your tour with costumed guides and if you are lucky, meet the Dutch-certified miller. Take a moment on the fourth-floor deck to see the beautiful 36 acres of gardens, including over 100,000 tulip blooms, from above. Once you have seen this magnificent piece of history, take a walk through the gardens and listen to the wonderful sounds of the Amsterdam street organ. Your children can play in the children’s playground, enjoy a snack in the picnic areas, say hi to the horses in the pasture, and more.
Veldheer Tulip Farm
Visit Velheer Tulip Garden, Holland’s only tulip farm. At its origin in 1950, Vern Veldheer planted a couple of hundred tulip bulbs as a hobby. Now the farm is an amazing sight to see with the beautiful colors of the flowers. With a total of around 5 million bulbs planted each year, it will be flowers for as far as the eye can see at this magnificent farm. With the majority of the flowers blooming in late April to mid-May, there is no time to see the farm like Tulip Time. Want to enjoy more splendor? Several varieties of other imported flowers and perennials are planted for you to enjoy, blooming throughout the spring, summer, and some even through mid-October.
Nelis Dutch Village
Make sure to make Nelis Dutch Village a stop on your Tulip Time tour. The kids will have a blast taking part in all the activities and the parents will have a blast as well. Enjoy a day filled with rides, learning, history, and more, your whole family will want to come back again and again. Step back in time and ride the windmill ride, watch the Dutch Dancers show and join in to learn a few steps of your own, walk a goat and enjoy the petting farm and make sure to snap a photo of your family by the over 35,000 tulips planted throughout the park.

Grand Rapids Public Museum
Beginning in 1868 at Central High school, this museum grew to its own home in 1903 at the Howlett house. Following even more growth, expansion needs, and one other building it called home, the current facility opened in 1994. Located right on the Grand River it now contains three floors of exhibits, the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium, Cook Carousel Pavilion, Meijer Theater, a cafe, and a gift shop.
The museum houses some staple exhibits, such as Streets of Old Grand Rapids, West Michigan Habitats, and Grand Fish Grand River, which can be seen year-round. It also brings in new and exciting, limited-time exhibits, which have included, TOYS!, Historic Grand Rapids Build from LEGO Bricks, Design Zone, and many more. With a mission of “Connecting people through art, creativity, and design” the Grand Rapids Art Museum believes art is essential for everyone. Grand Rapids Children’s Museum
Debuting in 1993 as a museum “without walls” the museum began its journey in the Woodland Mall. Featuring only 2 exhibits over 30,000 children were exposed to this fun, hands-on, exploration, and learning environment. Due to the excitement over these exhibits, the current location on Sheldon Ave. in downtown Grand Rapids opened in the summer of 1997 and has since seen more than 3 million guests. Offering fun and hands-on exhibits for children of all ages, check out the classics, such as The Fish Tank, Mirrors, and Lego tables.
Another favorite is the Bubbles exhibit which allows guests to see what the world looks like from inside a giant bubble. Or spend some time in Little GR, learning to count money in the TCF bank, make your own pizza in Buddy’s Pizza, shop in Meijer, and much more. There is so much to do at the Children’s Museum, you are sure to enjoy a fun-filled day with your family.

The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum
Enjoy in-person exhibits as well as, several online exhibits that you can enjoy right from the comfort of your own home. Having opened in 1981, this museum is part of the Presidential libraries system of the National Archives and Records Administration. The Grand Rapids African American Museum’s (GRAAMA) mission is “collecting and retelling the rich, colorful stories which compose the historic African American tapestry of living in Grand Rapids”. Getting its start in 2014 with a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council, the project initiated the recording of oral histories from African Americans right here in Grand Rapids and throughout West Michigan. This was just the beginning as the project grew and led to the opening of the current 2,100 square foot location open today. With the planning stages underway, the GRAAMA is looking to expand into its new 13,000+ square foot location in downtown Grand Rapids.

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park
After 13 years of planning and fundraising, the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park opened in 1995. Offering a variety of indoor and outdoor exhibits your day will be packed with beauty, fun, education, and inspiration. Some of the highlighted exhibits include the Japanese Garden, the Children’s Garden, Michigan’s farm garden the Amphitheater, and a seasonal favorite, the Butterfly exhibit. Also, enjoy their summer concert series and Tuesday Evening Music Club at the Amphitheater. Hop on their website and plan your visit today. You may need a couple of days to experience all the beauty the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park has to offer.

Kid-friendly: Very kid-friendly especially during their events geared towards children. Some exhibits are not necessarily as kid-friendly, but your children will enjoy the interactive exhibits and the freedom of the outdoor exhibits. Also, make sure to take them to the Children’s Garden exhibit.
Part of Kendall College of Art and Design, the UICA supports and exhibits contemporary art made by artists both local and from all over the world. The exhibits are free to the public.
What to do at UICA
The galleries at the UICA have art pieces of all sizes and inventiveness. If you want to see the art from a truly unique perspective, behind-the-scenes tours are available.
Outside of the walls of the UICA building, you can find its Exit Space Project locations, where local street artists add more color to downtown Grand Rapids by painting murals on utility boxes, buildings, and parking ramps around the city.
The UICA is currently reopening at the Woodbridge N. Ferris Building, on the campus of Kendall College of Art and Design. We will update you when more information is available.
