The Arts

Ebony Road Players, Local Theater

Ebony Road Players, a local theater company in Grand Rapids, aims to inspire, educate, and engage the community with high-quality theater productions centered on the Black experience. Founded in 2014 by Edye Evans Hyde to provide youth with a creative outlet, the company addresses the lack of artistic representation in the city. Their inaugural production was a staged reading of “When the Rain” and more by Ntozake Shange, followed by full productions in subsequent years. They host an annual Loving Day celebration, including an Arts Advocacy Awards Ceremony fundraiser, and showcase upcoming shows like “Anne and Emmitt” by Janet Langhart Cohen. Their productions are staged in various venues around the city, with more information available at ebonyroad.org.
