The Co-Founders of this brewery brewed their first batches in 1997. One year later, their taproom opened for business with the co-founders being the only bartenders. After struggling financially and pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into the business for years, their business turned around with the creation of Dirty Bastard and the debut of bourbon barrel-aged KBS draft. Becoming front runners of the bourbon barrel-aged scene, they grew to their first expansion in 2005. They officially moved to their current location in 2007 and have been growing and serving the community since. Odd Side Ales

With their story beginning in 2010, they began as a micro-brewery and quickly outgrew their pub’s brewing capacity due to high demand for products. After expanding three times, they currently run their operations out of their own 44,000 sq ft facility. They maintain a year-round core group of craft beers while also bringing in new seasonal menu items. They now distribute to 8 states other than Michigan, but seeing their facility in person is unbeatable. Head over to their website to see their different beers on tap. Visit Lake Michigan

The Lake Michigan beaches are popular in the warm summer months, but there’s a special beauty to the lakeshore when the waves freeze, and there’s a muffled silence all around you. Just make sure you bundle up because it can be really cold.

For a short hike to a beautiful view, head to Saugatuck Dunes State Park. There are many trails to the lakeshore, the shortest being a ¾ mile-straight shot to the beach. Winter hiking or snowshoeing through the lakeside forests is itself a peaceful and enjoyable experience, but hitting the frozen dunes and lakeshore is truly a breathtaking sight. The lakeshore often freezes into hills of ice that are spectacular in person!

Visit one of the many lighthouses along the lakeshore to see a tower encased in sharp icicles angled by the wind. The Grand Haven lighthouse is a popular one to check out. Its pier makes for a striking image covered in snow and ice. It is not advised to walk out on the icy pier and make sure to follow any posted signs you see at any of the lighthouses you stop at.
