The cold weather is almost behind us and the light is right ahead! West Michigan is bursting with the beauty of all things that spring brings – which means that Easter is rapidly approaching, and with it all the fun holidays and activities it brings.
Easter is on Sunday, April 20 this year and there are a ton of opportunities in West Michigan to get the kids out in the warmer weather and let them hunt for some eggs! Ivanrest Church’s annual community Easter Eggstravaganza will be Saturday, April 19th at 10:30 AM. This family fun event will begin on the front lawn with an Easter egg hunt for kids ages 1-10. Following the egg hunt, join us in the West Wing for crafts, snacks, face painting and a special story time! Feel free to invite your family, friends, and neighbors.
Please join Chandler Woods for their annual Spring Egg Hunt on April 18th, for kids 12 and under. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park: Stage Plaza, families can take part in a variety of activities including the 24 Karrot Trail, where children under nine can scavenge for eggs containing candy or prizes.
A special “golden karrot” egg will even score some lucky kids a unique prize, according to a recent press release. But that’s not all the Easter bunny has in store. Every family in attendance will have the chance to snag an Easter basket full of goodies through a free drawing, with the winner announced at 7:40 p.m.
The little ones can also look forward to carnival games, inflatable attractions, and a visit from the Easter Bunny for those all-important holiday snaps.

Thornapple’s favorite annual event of the year is back! Egg hunts are split into two sessions, A and B, starting at 9:30 and then 11am.
In 2022, they hid over 10,600 eggs on their property and handed out over 250 prizes. This is a free event, however they will be collecting donations ****if you feel led! All donations collected will go towards their summer camp program, Camp Thornapple. Funds will help subsidize the cost so kids can participate in classes at half the cost (or less!) of their value. Donations also help fully cover the cost for any child who wants to participate but can’t due to financial restraints.
Make sure to remember to redeem your prizes and keep your eggs to recycle later!

Registration opens at 10:00 AM. The first age group will start at 11:00 AM. Age groups will be split from 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-11 years old. We will have limited bags available for use on a first come, first serve basis.

The first stop on this West Michigan brewery trail is The Mitten Brewing co.! Founded in 2012 by two lifelong friends, this vintage baseball-themed brewery and pizzeria is a must-stop on your brewery road trip. Kick off your trip with this unique, history-filled restaurant. Built-in one of Grand Rapids’ Victorian masterpieces, the old Engine House No. 9 is now home to this fantastic business. Becoming the first working brewery in the West Side of Grand Rapids since Prohibition their history and offerings are sure to be unlike any other.
Having its start in Detroit Michigan in 1997, Atwater in Grand Rapids opened in 2016 and is located downtown. This German-style brewhouse is the creator of Dirty Blonde and Vanilla Java Porter, two front runners on the craft beer market. With the slogan being, “We drink all we can and sell the rest” the love for this craft clearly begins in-house and expands to communities all around. This is a must-visit on your brewery road trip.
Placed at the gateway of Grand Rapids Michigan’s Westside, this brewery offers drink and food menus that will give you a taste of many other worlds. With a full drink menu offering favorites such as Dragon’s Milk, The Poet, Golden Sails, and many more beers brewed in-house, there is something for every beer connoisseur. If you’re looking for cocktails, wine, and cider, they have many options in those categories, so everyone is sure to find exactly what they want. With a range of food options on the menu, this stop on the tour is a great place to grab a snack or have a delicious meal along with your drinks.
The Co-Founders of this brewery brewed their first batches in 1997. One year later, their taproom opened for business with the co-founders being the only bartenders. After struggling financially and pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into the business for years, their business turned around with the creation of Dirty Bastard and the debut of bourbon barrel-aged KBS draft. Becoming front runners of the bourbon barrel-aged scene, they grew to their first expansion in 2005. They officially moved to their current location in 2007 and have been growing and serving the community since. In that time they have created a few other front-runner beers, which are staples on their menu and have grown a huge distribution career as well.
With its slogan being “Smack-dab in the middle of everywhere” this is a natural middle point between Grand Rapids and the lakeshore and is a great middle spot for our tour. Enjoy locally sourced products with a farm-to-table approach at this eclectic, down-to-earth brewery. Offering a variety of beers from pilsners to stout to ales, everyone is sure to find a brew that quenches their thirst. Fill your belly with delicious food from One-Eyed Pete’s kitchen, the breweries sister business. Inspired by southern BBQ the locally sourced food will pair excellently with whatever beer you try.
Beginning in brew kettles, this brewery has expanded into what it is today. Owned by beer lovers who are constantly honing their craft by being a part of the Muskegon Ottawa Brewers club (MOB) this brewery takes pride in the beers it serves. Inspired by a desire to connect with the community even their name pays homage to the history of the city it calls home. Enjoy a beer or cider (or both) while visiting. Also, make sure to try their crisp, bubbly seltzer with light pear and white grape twist. A perfect mid-point stop on this West Michigan Brewery trail!
Serving the Grand Haven area since 2015 in a historic, 113-year-old building, the Grand Armory Brewing is home to 20 taps and a variety of ales, ciders, and wine. This brewery is unique in that it opens early in the morning with coffee, scones, and a relaxed atmosphere and morphs into a brewery throughout the day. With food, music, and drinks it is a welcoming environment for all ages and a must-visit on your tour to the lakeshore.
This Caribbean/ Retro style taproom has a Burzurk vibe and fantastic beer options. With 12 taps they offer beers in all styles, ciders, and a unique flavor your own hard seltzer option. Their offerings vary from Mexican/Czech lagers, porters, stouts, IPA’s, and more. Head over to their taproom to sample their beers and check out their awesome merchandise.
With their story beginning in 2010, they began as a micro-brewery and quickly outgrew their pub’s brewing capacity due to high demand for products. After expanding three times, they currently run their operations out of their own 44,000 sq ft facility. They maintain a year-round core group of craft beers while also bringing in new seasonal menu items. They now distribute to 8 states other than Michigan, but seeing their facility in person is unbeatable. Head over to their website to see their different beers on tap. Hop aboard a holiday-decorated, vintage locomotive for a 90-minute round-trip ride from Coopersville to Marne and back. While aboard the train, Santa will visit with each family while the children are able to tell him what they are wishing for this holiday season. The experience also features a storytelling princess that will read Christmas-themed books to the children in each train car.
Have little ones? No worries, the train has bathrooms and heat to keep you toasty regardless of how cold it is outside. The Santa train runs on Saturdays and Sundays Nov. 30 through Dec. 22. Head to the lakeshore and see Santa in downtown Spring Lake as part of the Spring Lake Sparkle. The Sparkle runs November 23 through January 1, but exact Santa dates have not yet been announced. While downtown in Spring Lake be sure to check out everything else the Spring Lake Sparkle has to offer as well as the local businesses that are staying open late on Fridays and Saturdays. This is a great spot to visit Santa in West Michigan!

Epicurean Village will be ground zero for the duration of Sparkle – There you will find a community Christmas tree, Santa’s house with operating hours, a fireplace, and seating. Santa is back in Lowell on the Lowell Showboat VI! The man in red arrives on Saturday, December 7, and will be visiting with children on the showboat from 2 to 4 p.m. Make sure to stick around for the annual nighttime Santa parade starting at 6 p.m. Santa will also be at the showboat on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 7 p.m. until Dec. 18 and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Dec. 21. All visits include a free online photo, and a $2 donation is recommended. Cookies and hot cocoa are also provided free of charge! Lines are often long and there may be an outside line so be sure to dress accordingly.
If you are looking for more of an experience, check out “A Nite of Christmas Cheer” on Friday, December 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for visits with Santa, hot cocoa, cookies, hot dogs, chestnuts, warming fires, and carriage rides.
Fredrick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park is a great place to see Santa in Grand Rapids. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in a tropical conservatory on Tuesday evenings December 3, 10 & 17 from 5-8pm. A visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus is included when you purchase a general admission ticket to the gardens. For more information on hours and admission costs check out their website. Santa arrives in Rockford on December 7 at the Santa Parade! From at 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Santa will be visiting with children immediately after the parade in the Rotary Pavillion. Carriage rides will also be available from the pavilion through downtown Rockford. This Rockford event is a great place to see Santa in West Michigan! Click here for more details on the event.
Starting December 7 th, Santa and Mrs. Clause will be in Mrs. Clauses’ bakery in Sparta at the Sparta Chamber Office. Santa’s schedule varies and can be found here. Be sure to take your own camera to capture that special moment with Santa as a photographer is not provided. If you are looking to add a little more fun to the day, there are a few dates that will offer a holiday hay ride as well!
What’s better than picking out your live Christmas tree with the whole family? Visiting Santa while you’re at it of course! New to Bosch’s Countryview Nursery last year is their Santa Cabin experience. Starting November 23, on limited dates, grab a cup of hot cocoa as you board your horse/tractor-pulled wagon through the woods out to the Santa cabin where you will get to visit with Santa. You will also get a packet of S’mores to roast on the fire outside of the cabin. How cool is that? The price is $10 per person but hurry the last date for the season is Dec 21! This is a can’t miss spot to see Santa in West Michigan!

Located in Hudsonville, Michigan, this family-owned and operated business incorporates all of your favorite fall must-haves in one place. Enjoy hayrides, a pumpkin train ride, farm animals, outdoor play areas, and more in this beautiful old-fashioned farm setting. With 100 years of history, this Alpine Township farm started in 1922 and consisted of 170 acres. The farm was active from its start, hosting barn dances, weddings, tours, and hayrides through the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. The barn now hosts a fresh produce market, gift shop, bakery, kitchen, and taproom. Whether you’re looking for U-Pick apples or strawberries, test your skills and trivia knowledge in their 8-acre trivia-based corn maze, take the whole family on a hayride, or enjoy some live music while sipping on a beverage from the taproom, you can do it all at Ed Dunneback and Girls farm. Since 2009, over a quarter-million people have descended on the streets of Grand Rapids to enjoy the city-wide art exhibit. Over 150 venues around the city join museums and galleries in hosting hundreds of artists’ work. With the event offering 18 days to take part in the beauty and events, you can make sure to enjoy as much as you’d like. Pull out your red flannel and head out to one of the longest-running festivals in Michigan. Always occurring on the first Saturday in October, this festival takes place in Cedar Springs, Michigan, and celebrates over 80 years of being a staple event for locals and surrounding cities. Head down to downtown Cedar Springs during this two-weekend festival and enjoy an array of events, an Arts and Crafts Show, Parade, Car Show, Lumberjack Supper, and more! This two-day, free event takes place in the beautiful Fallasburg Park in Lowell, Michigan. The yearly event takes place in September and hosts 100 fine art and craft artist booths. Coopersville Brewing Company is situated in the small town of Coopersville halfway between Grand Rapids and Grand Haven- otherwise known as right in the middle of everywhere. About Coopersville Brewing Company
Officially open to the public in April 2021, Coopersville Brewing Company is locally owned and operated all while keeping community growers in mind. The essence of the CBC is farm-raised and city-inspired. This place has down-to-earth values mixed with the fun energy of Grand Rapids and Chicago. CBC offers a farm-to-table approach to the way they brew their beer, prepare their food, and host their guests in the taproom.
CBC is owned by Jeremey Grossenbacher, Dennis Grossenbacher, Jim Goodburm (also brewmaster), and Greg Grossenbacher. Most days you will find Jim in the back creating his amazing microbrews and Jeremy in the front of the house talking with guests. The general manager is Sean Sorensen and the head chef is Dan West. Sean and Dan both spent time in the Chicago food scene before settling down in quaint Coopersville. Jeremy (whose hometown is Coopersville) spent time working in corporate sales and slinging Groupons across the country before coming home to see his dream become a reality.
They like to say that they have “come home to roost”! The crew at CBC has a passion for great beer, amazing local food, and spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. They have a passion for the local community and it shows in everything they do.

CBC has a variety of unique brews on tap that can be purchased by the glass, growler, or even a tasting flight!
On tap, you will find everything from IPAs to porters to darker brewed ales and meads. Try the Blueberry and Lemon Mead which has orange blossom, honey, blueberry, and lemon. Or the Ties the Room Together which is a pale porter made with Magnum Roasters “Love Potion Number 9”.
Another fan favorite is the Middle Aged, which is a session skinny IPA, or the 2 Dudes, which is a Mexican lager that has a crisp taste with citrus and notes of Emerald Spire hope and lime peel.
The CBC taproom is a friendly, open space with lots of seating for couples and families alike. There are a variety of high tops, bar seating and large tables for the entire family. You will also find a large patio area complete with picnic tables.
Make sure to check out the amazing bar area at Coopersville Brewing Company! Here you will find a mini replica of the Grand River running right through the bartop. Plus, you get a great community vibe sitting up at the bar.

The railway is an all-volunteer historic railway operating vintage train rides for visitors with 1920s themed train cars. The Coopersville Historical Museum, also located in downtown Coopersville, has historical exhibits such as a century-old sawmill, 19th-century drugstore replica, interurban train, household exhibits, and memorabilia from early rock-n-roll star, Del Shannon (a Coopersville native).
The museum’s main building was once a depot for the Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, and Muskegon Railways. The eclectic rail served the area in the early 20th century. Added to the museum’s buildings are a rustically designed sawmill and an early settlers building, which was completed in the early 2000s. It is a Michigan Historic Site and on the National Register of Historic Places.
One of the main exhibits in the museum is the Tasker Drug Store display. This recreation of an early local store includes nine-foot-high exterior doors, an original counter, apothecary jars, shelves, medicine packages, and lots of other pharmaceutical items. The museum’s steam railway and interurban train exhibits are also other major exhibits.

Tuesday: 2 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Friday: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. *Open other times for group tours and special visits.

Located within walking distance of the main downtown area, the Coopersville Library has a vast array of books, computer access, a children’s book area, and an adjacent playground area! The library began serving citizens in the area in 1913 and became a district library in 1994. The building was renovated through a 1.65 million dollar bond millage in 2016 and reopened at its new location on Ottawa Street in May of 2017. The library is one of 42 member libraries belonging to the Lakeland Library Cooperative, which covers eight counties in West Michigan.

The Coopersville Historical Museum, also located in downtown Coopersville, has historical exhibits such as a century-old sawmill, 19th-century drugstore replica, interurban train, household exhibits, and memorabilia from early rock-n-roll star, Del Shannon (a Coopersville native).
The museum’s main building was once a depot for the Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, and Muskegon Railways. The eclectic rail served the area in the early 20th century. Added to the museum’s buildings are a rustically designed sawmill and an early settlers building, which was completed in the early 2000s. It is a Michigan Historic Site and on the National Register of Historic Places.
One of the main exhibits in the museum is the Tasker Drug Store display. This recreation of an early local store includes nine-foot-high exterior doors, an original counter, apothecary jars, shelves, medicine packages, and lots of other pharmaceutical items. The museum’s steam railway and interurban train exhibits are also other major exhibits.

Tuesday: 2 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Friday: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. *Open other times for group tours and special visits.
No admission fee during regular hours. Donations are welcome!
Read a Book at the Coopersville Area District Library
Located within walking distance of the main downtown area, the Coopersville Library has a vast array of books, computer access, a children’s book area, and an adjacent playground area! The library began serving citizens in the area in 1913 and became a district library in 1994. The building was renovated through a 1.65 million dollar bond millage in 2016 and reopened at its new location on Ottawa Street in May of 2017. The library is one of 42 member libraries belonging to the Lakeland Library Cooperative, which covers eight counties in West Michigan.

Grab a Pint at Coopersville Brewing Company
Brand new to town is the Coopersville Brewing Company (CBC)! No visit to Coopersville is complete without enjoying a pint of the good stuff at the unique bar at this awesome brewery. They have a variety of unique brews on tap, including It Was All A C.R.E.A.M. which is a light-bodied cream ale and Another Man’s Treasure which is a midwest IPA. Take a Train Ride
One of the most popular attractions in town is the Coopersville and Marne Railway train. The railway is an all-volunteer historic railway operating vintage train rides for visitors with 1920s themed train cars. The train ride takes you from Coopersville to Marne and back, which is about a seven mile track. The city has a rich steam railroad history that played a significant role in the emergence of the town. The town emerged after a contract with its founder Benjamin Cooper brought the railroad through the area in 1858.

Taste the Farm Freshness
Located near Coopersville are several farms offering local produce, fresh flowers, cheeses, and so much more! Make sure to visit Gavin Orchards, a family-owned farm offering sweet cherries, apples, peaches, squash, pumpkins, and sweet apple cider in the fall. Another great stop is Grassfields Cheeses, a fifth-generation family farm that makes and sells fresh cheese as well as grass-fed beef, pork, chicken, and more.
There are also several wonderful Blueberry Farms near Coopersville that are worth a visit. Venroy Blueberries and Lindberg Blueberries are both located southwest of the city and offer you an option to pick your own blueberries each season.

Attend an Event
Coopersville has a number of events that take place weekly, monthly, and on an annual basis—so there’s always something fun to do! Check some of them out below:
Coopersville Summerfest and Car Show: This annual summer event offers three days of fun, festival activities including live music, car cruise, kids activities, an entertainment tent, and more! The festival normally takes place on the second weekend of August, each year. There’s also a special kids night to kick off the festival full of carnival games, live animals, craft booths, and so much more!
Music On Main: This annual summer concert series brings free entertainment every other week to downtown Coopersville. They offer lively bands, food, and craft vendors plus a new social beverage zone on Main Street. Check out the full entertainment line-up here!
Santa Parade: This annual parade has been running since 1980 and takes place the first Friday in December. The parade, filled with professional and amateur floats, plus firetrucks and sponsored vehicles, runs from the corner of Eastmanville down to Main Street. They also have free refreshments, visits with Santa, and live Reindeer! Make sure to get here early to get a good spot—this event is extremely popular.

Coopersville Farmers Market: The market takes place every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. located in the parking lot of Naturally Nourished and Ireland Chiropractic Clinic.
