Grand Rapids Art Museum

The GRAM has been building community through art, creativity, and design for over 100 years! In order to connect with a wide variety of audiences, each exhibition, event, and educational program covers a wide range of topics, mediums, and genres. This inspiring place also ensures that the art venue, resource, and education is accessible to the entire Grand Rapids community by offering free admission to qualifying guests. The GRAM is more than a world-class museum—from free workshops for the family to gallery chats that help you learn more about the art and artists, there are so many events offered here each week!

Center Art Gallery

The original Center Art Gallery first opened in 1974, and can currently be explored at Calvin University. It’s a hub for art lovers to be inspired by major loan exhibitions and work created by Calvin’s faculty, alumni, and students. This Gallery is home to 3,800 square feet of exhibition space that displays a wide range of temporary exhibitions. The permanent collection of art consists of over 1,800 works of art dating from the 16th century to the present. Early pieces are drawn from European paintings and Japanese printmaking schools. This wonderful space provides the educational opportunity to view the aesthetic richness of other cultures. 

Grand Valley State University Art Gallery

Did you know the second-largest art collection in the state of Michigan can be found at Grand Valley State University? If you walk through the campus at GVSU, you’ll find that artwork is thoughtfully incorporated into every university building. It feels like a borderless museum that spans the beautiful campus. Plus, each semester hosts a different temporary exhibition! The GVSU art gallery team empowers the community to engage with art through a variety of exhibitions, educational events, activities, and resources. Here, visual art-viewing experiences have the power to spark conversations, action, and reflection on core themes of social justice, human rights, and empathy that align with the university’s philosophy of liberal education.

Meijer Gardens

Experience masterpieces of art and nature that will delight all of your senses! Fredrick Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park has been a place to admire art and nature for over 13 million guests since opening in 1995. Just a few highlights from this magical place include The Richard & Helen DeVos Japanese Garden, Lena Meijer Children’s Garden, Michigan’s Farm Garden, outdoor summer concerts, and a tropical conservatory. Meijer Gardens has created a legacy of rich cultural experience. The Butterflies Are Blooming exhibition is the largest temporary tropical butterfly exhibition in the nation. Enjoy one of the nation’s premier horticultural display gardens and sculpture parks in this wonderful Grand Rapids, Michigan location! 

The Arts Marketplace

The Arts Marketplace has been focused on filling its space with diverse artists and promoting diversity in Grand Rapids since 2020. They also offer to start up artists’ rent subsidization to help promote long-term success and profitability. The Arts Marketplace is the perfect spot to engage in the community, support local creatives, and enjoy an inspiring retail experience right in the heart of downtown. 

Gallery 154

The banner outside Gallery 154 states “Unpredictable Gifts” for any occasion. In November and December, the Gallery seriously looks like a North Pole display. This Eastown jewel offers a wide variety of art forms, from over 70 Artists throughout the country. If you’re looking for some one-of-a-kind accessories, then you’re in luck because they’re well known for their amazing jewelry selection!

Muse GR

At Muse, you’ll find an open space perfect for gatherings, videos, photography, and music. It’s an interactive art gallery and event space located in Grand Rapids. This collaborative space is for artists to create projects, host events, facilitate workshops, and more. Here the beauty of the community is reflected by the diversity of art and creativity. Studio JSD

Studio JSD is the home of award-winning jewelry designer Julie Sanford. When you walk in the doors you’ll marvel at some of the lakeshore’s best selection of jewelry and gifts created by local artists. In addition to a beautiful and welcoming shop, there’s also a fully equipped studio that provides space for professional jewelry-making classes and workshops. This exquisite gallery offers one-of-a-kind treasures and gifts and, if you are feeling inspired, they also have tools, lapidary equipment, books, materials, rocks, and metal available to purchase. 

Cascade Art Gallery

Cascade Art Gallery offers a spacious two-level exhibition space that features artwork in various mediums. The gallery showcases all works of art including oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, ceramics, hand-blown glass, sculpture, and unique jewelry. Wonder in amazement at the work of regional, national, and international artists in a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. Revolving exhibitions showcase collections from renowned artists such as Rembrandt, Dali, Durer, Picasso, Goya, Calder, Miro, and others.

DAAC

The Division Avenue Arts Collective is a gallery, music venue, and DIY project incubator that has been run by volunteers since 2003! The passion of these volunteers provides the fuel for this safe and artistic space, for the entire community regardless of age or experience. The DAAC invites creatives to express their inner artist in a non-commercial, independent, and transparent setting. The gallery includes seven art hanging rails, Juno gallery spotlights, and three moving panels for additional art hanging. 

LaFontsee Galleries

LaFontsee Galleries has achieved many awards and national recognition for exceptional artwork, and progressive ideas. You’ll find that the artwork of over seventy artists is not for sale but, rather, they are there to be understood and appreciated. This gallery began just as the arts culture in Grand Rapids was gaining spark. Scott and Linda LaFontsee founded the Underground studio in 1987 and expanded their vision in 1994 by developing LaFontsee Galleries. With a dedication to promoting the arts, the gallery hosts community events and non-profit organizations.  

GRCC Collins Art Gallery

The Grand Rapids Community College Paul Collins Art Gallery provides diverse exhibitions to educate and inspire the community. The exhibit consists of local creatives, visiting artists, faculty, and students. You’ll find that the art pieces offer diverse talents from local, regional, national, and international domains. Lectures by the curators are also offered at the gallery. 

Holland Area Arts Council

​Visit the Holland Area Arts Council today and you’ll be completely surrounded by art. All of the paintings and sculptures that color the gallery walls and rooms fully immerse you in that creative feeling. It’s easy to tell that this art space is deeply dedicated to educating and engaging the community through the art experience. The Arts Council invites families and artists of all ages to come and spark their imagination. Along with the exhibition’s ever-changing gallery, Holland Area Arts Council also hosts a wide variety of classes, camps, and workshops. Since 1967, the lakeshore community has supported the arts councils’ local arts initiatives, organized exhibitions, and provided arts education.
