When community members and visitors think of Holland in the winter, some of the best memories are their holiday events that illuminate the magic that snow-filled Tullip Town has to offer. Below are some of the highlights that you and your family should make sure to participate in to round out your holiday season.

Parade of Lights

Don’t miss the arrival of Santa Claus during the annual Parade of Lights. Escorted by 75 floats, antique cars, walkers, and marching bands—Santa will be busy, so head out to be one of the hundreds to welcome him to the city of Holland. This brightly lit holiday kickoff event is fun for the whole family. The parade begins on the corner of Eighth Street and Columbia and proceeds west down Eighth Street to the Holland Civic Center. Sinterklaas Eve: Bring your kids to this fun and educational event. Children can follow Sinterklaas around the Eighth Street Market Place and learn about the tradition of Sinterklaas. What a fun way to bring past and present together and share in some holiday cheer! Make sure to take time to pose for photos with Sinterklaas and end your tour with a special surprise. This event is outdoors, so be sure to bundle up. The event is free, but make sure to bring a little spending money because there are treats, warm beverages, and holiday items available for purchase. Christmas at the Cappon House:

Foster your holiday cheer with Victorian Christmas at the Cappon House in beautiful Holland. Get the chance to tour this beautiful home and learn about the changes in the Yuletide celebration over the last 100 years. Make sure to bring the whole family, as this event is aimed at each age group and offers fun activities for all. Make traditional decorations, sample delicious holiday sweets, and sing along to Christmas carols played on the piano.

Holidays Around the World

Another fun-filled, educational holiday event is the Holidays Around the World Event held at the Holland Museum. Mosey around the museum and explore the different winter holidays from all over the world. Kids and adults alike can participate in art activities, listen to stories, and play games centered around history. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the holidays while also learning interesting traditions and celebrating diversity—it’s a win for everyone!

Magic at the Mill

Looking for another unique holiday experience in Holland, Michigan? Magic at the Mill is a one-of-a-kind experience for community members and visitors alike. Held the first three weekends in December, Holland’s DeZwaan windmill is set aglow with thousands of twinkling lights. Marvel at the 100-year-old windmill sparkle, surrounded by thousands of LED tulips. Visit Sinterklaas while there and watch a musically synced light show. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase, but event tickets must be purchased online.

Kersmarkt

This European-style outdoor market runs mid-November through mid-December, offering plenty of chances to head out and enjoy all it has to offer. Purchase unique, handcrafted, holiday items and delicious foods for your family and friends to enjoy. Starting out with only 10 booths in 1997, this market has almost doubled in size and has become a yearly tradition for manybringing some visitors from as far away as Texas!
