Offering 76 acres of woodland, prairies, and wetlands, the Hudsonville Nature Center offers a full day of fun for the entire family. Action Wake Park

Have a blast at Michigan’s first, full-size cable park! Water sports are no longer limited to those who have a boat or other fun aquatic equipment. Bring the family and learn how to wakeboard, kneel, and water ski. With a variety of cable passes, you can decide on how long you want to enjoy the fun, whether you want to include equipment rentals, and you can even utilize their Learn to Ride special¾which includes slow cable time to adjust to your bearings and knowledgeable, yet compassionate, instructors to help you successfully embark on your water sports journey.

As a little historic side note, Action Wake Park started from Action Water Sports as just a dealership in Zeeland. They eventually expanded dealerships out of West Michigan and into Traverse City, Fenton, and Central Florida making Action Wake Park the largest action water sports dealer in the nation! Though the dealership is widespread, this is the only water park in the area.

Hudsonville Balloon Days

The annual Hudsonville Balloon Days event takes place in June and is a must see for families during the summer in West Michigan. Everyone is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, kites, and more to the Unity Christian High School grounds for this fun two day event. This free event includes balloon flights, balloon glows at sunset each evening, food trucks, local vendors and music. Make sure to stay for the Pilot and Crew meet and greet and learn more about this fun sport from experts who love what they do.

The street includes a pedestrian-only section with strings of lights perfect for photography enthusiasts! Be sure to bring swimwear for the kids so you can watch them enjoy the splash pad, dry off at the pocket park, then wrap the day up with some snacks with friends and family along the way. Harvey Street also intersects with Terra Square, which hosts the Farmers Market (weekly during the summer) and includes an event space offering many public events and a workspace.

Enjoy produce and delicious foods from local vendors weekly at the Terra Square Farmers Market. With over 20 different vendors, everyone is sure to find plenty of things to take home at the market. Each night features a different theme, so come and experience the festivities each week for a taste of something different.

Urban Hay Day

This fall festival takes place annually in October in downtown Hudsonville. Bring your family over for a fun-filled day, including delicious donuts and cider, hayrides, pony rides, and delightful live music. Try your luck on the mechanical bull, and watch your kids rollick through the critter barn and bounce house. Veterans Park comes alive with delightfully live music and an amazing community. Each night features children’s activities, various food trucks, and fun giveaways. Orchards are on the top of most people’s West Michigan fall activities to-do list due to the combination of exciting activities and beautiful fall colors. The orchards below provide fun for the whole family and are located right in West Michigan.

Post Family Farm

Located in Hudsonville, Michigan, this family-owned and operated business incorporates all of your favorite fall must-haves in one place. Enjoy hayrides, a pumpkin train ride, farm animals, outdoor play areas, and more in this beautiful old-fashioned farm setting. Fall activity hours are as follows, Monday through Thursday from noon to 7 p.m., Friday from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Don’t forget to stop into the donut shop that opens at 7:30 a.m. to grab some of their amazing pumpkin donuts and apple cider. Lewis Adventure Farm and Zoo

If you’re up in the Muskegon area, Lewis Adventure Farm and Zoo is a day trip you won’t want to miss. Open daily during the fall, you can stop into U-Pick apples to enjoy over 46 attractions and see over 100 animals. Burn off some energy on the Hillbilly Giant Slide, low ropes and activity course, pedal carts, and more. Recharge with some delicious donuts and sweets at the bakery, or grab lunch at the Farm Market Kitchen. Crane’s Orchards

Set a day aside to explore Crane’s located in Fennville, Michigan. Spend a good part of your day in their 20-acre corn maze. Have you made it out of the maze in previous years? Don’t let that deter you. Crane’s creates a new design each year. Do you have what it takes to defeat this year’s challenge? Once you find your way out of the maze, the kids can enjoy a cow train ride, and the whole family can relax and rest their feet on one of their tractor-driven hayrides. Harvest Moon Acres

The quaint city of Gobles, Michigan, is home to Harvest Moon Acres. A corn maze and fun park provide family fun on the farm. Run around Cattle Castle, test your skills at Harvest Moon Saloon Shootout, get competitive with duck races, and more. Don’t forget to stop by and meet their farm animals and, of course, enjoy a tractor-driven hayride. Finish your day with concessions, and make sure you pick your perfect pumpkin for carving. Ed Dunneback and Girls Farm

With 100 years of history, this Alpine Township farm started in 1922 and consisted of 170 acres. The farm was active from its start, hosting barn dances, weddings, tours, and hayrides through the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. The barn now hosts a fresh produce market, gift shop, bakery, kitchen, and taproom. Whether you’re looking for U-Pick apples or strawberries, test your skills and trivia knowledge in their 8-acre trivia-based corn maze, take the whole family on a hayride, or enjoy some live music while sipping on a beverage from the taproom, you can do it all at Ed Dunneback and Girls farm. Great Lakes Glow Golf

Looking for a fun indoor experience for those crummier days? Head over to Great Lakes Glow Golf. Compete on their indoor mini-golf course under black light in their unique themed experience. Blandford Nature Center

If you want to enjoy all of the beautiful fall colors that nature offers, make sure you make a trip to the Blandford Nature Center. With 264 acres of land and an abundance of wildlife to see, you’ll fall in love with what Blandford Nature Center has to offer. Don’t forget to check out their events calendar and participate in their fun activities, such as Wizards, Witches, and Owls or The Blandford Halloween Hunt. ArtPrize

What is one festival that is loved by not only locals but by those all over? Adults and children alike are wowed as they wander the art-filled streets of Grand Rapids every other fall at ArtPrize. Since 2009, over a quarter-million people have descended on the streets of Grand Rapids to enjoy the city-wide art exhibit. Over 150 venues around the city join museums and galleries in hosting hundreds of artists’ work. With the event offering 18 days to take part in the beauty and events, you can make sure to enjoy as much as you’d like. Red Flannel Festival

Pull out your red flannel and head out to one of the longest-running festivals in Michigan. Always occurring on the first Saturday in October, this festival takes place in Cedar Springs, Michigan, and celebrates over 80 years of being a staple event for locals and surrounding cities. Head down to downtown Cedar Springs during this two-weekend festival and enjoy an array of events, an Arts and Crafts Show, Parade, Car Show, Lumberjack Supper, and more! Don’t show up without your red or you’ll wind up in “jail” and have to pay $1 to get yourself out. Fallasburg Art Festival

This two-day, free event takes place in the beautiful Fallasburg Park in Lowell, Michigan. The yearly event takes place in September and hosts 100 fine art and craft artist booths. Live music, food booths, and children’s activities make this an event the whole family will enjoy. African American Arts & Music Festival

Take a historical journey through musical expression in downtown Grand Rapids at the African American Arts and Music Festival. This two-part concert event honors and celebrates many different African American contributions through visual and performing arts. With previous performers, including New City Kids, Jordan Hamilton, and more, the variety of entertainment and food is something you won’t want to miss. Michigan Apple Fest

Looking for an event with many vendors, food trucks, bounce houses, kids’ fall activities, and a petting zoo? Look no further than Michigan Apple Fest in Sparta, Michigan. Downtown Sparta hosts this festival annually and it’s one you won’t want to miss. Kick off the fall season with this two-day event that combines new and traditional festivities each year. Zeeland Pumpkinfest

If you’re in the Zeeland area, the Zeeland Pumpkinfest is something to make sure you check out. A variety of kid-friendly activities is fun for the whole family. International Beer, Wine, and Food Festival

Sample from over 1,000 different wines, beers, ciders, and spirits from all around the world. Pair these samples with delicious food creations from the area’s finest restaurants. Muskegon Fall Festival

Head on over to the Muskegon County Fairgrounds for their Fall Festival each year in early October. Daily activities will include arts and crafts, food vendors, outside games, a costume contest, and much more. Make sure to peruse around the flea market and ride some of the fun carnival rides. West Michigan Apple Orchards

Robinette’s Apple Haus and Winery

Look no further than Robinette’s Orchard if you’re looking for apple picking, corn mazes, fresh apple cider, and some of the best Grand Rapids donuts. For over 100 years, they’ve been growing apples and making cider at this popular historic farm north of Grand Rapids. They also offer tastings and bottles of their wines and ciders made in-house.

Robinette’s Michigan cider and donuts are the perfect fall treat. You can watch workers crush the apples at the cider mill and fill up your jug of fresh cider literally in front of you. Pair a cup of hot cider with a warm cinnamon or apple donut from Robinette’s Bakery, and you won’t be disappointed.

Apple Orchards in Michigan: Moelker Orchards & Farm Market

Moelker Orchards is a Greater Grand Rapids orchard west of the city and has plenty of family fun to offer. They grow apples, peaches, pears, plums, and cherries, plus have a pumpkin patch in the fall.

Moekler’s Old Bell Bakery has warm apple cinnamon, pumpkin, and buttermilk donuts to enjoy after a day of Michigan apple picking. On top of that, they also make their own apple dumplings and creamy fudge for you to sink your sweet tooth into!

Post Family Farm

If you’re looking for the quintessential west Michigan fall farm experience, you’ll find it at Post Family Farm in Hudsonville. Autumn brings a harvest of fall produce and family activities for you and your family to check out.

Take a hayride to the u-pick pumpkin patch and find the perfect one for your Jack-o’-lantern. Plus, there’s an outdoor kiddie corral, a covered straw play area, and giant tube slides for the little ones.

You can’t leave the Post Family Farm before you try one of their homemade pumpkin donuts with a glass of cider. Iced or with cinnamon sugar, the donuts will leave you bringing home a dozen to enjoy later.

Apple Orchards in Michigan: Fruit Ridge Hayrides

Just a touch north of Grand Rapids nestled along the main stretch of Michigan’s fruit-growing region, lies Fruit Ridge Hayrides in Kent City.

Head to “The Ridge” to find u-pick apples and pumpkins. In addition to u-pick, they also offer pony rides, horse-drawn hayrides, a corn maze, a petting zoo, and more!

If you need a break from all the fall fun, Fruit Ridge Hayrides offers fresh homemade apple spice donuts and apple cider. Need something a little more? They also offer hotdogs, nachos, and more for your enjoyment. Grab your snack and head to the picnic area with a bonfire to help keep you warm while you indulge.

Hill Bros Orchards & Cider Mill

While they don’t offer apple picking or donuts, Hill Bros is worth a stop because they press some of the best award-winning apple cider in the area. This six-generation apple farm focuses on quality above all else. They also sell their Michigan apples in the fall and sell jams and jellies in their farm market.

Made fresh on the farm, their cider is UV treated with no preservatives. Stop by and grab a gallon mid-September through January and see why West Michiganders swear by the stuff.

Ed Dunneback and Girls Farm Market

Located on 6 Mile Road in Grand Rapids, Dunneback has been a staple fall excursion for many Michiganders for generations. Apple picking starts in September with a whole variety of Michigan apples available, including Honeycrisp, Jonagold, Braeburn, and more! Another great West Michigan Apple Orchard experience!

Besides apple picking, you can find your next jack o’lantern in Dunneback’s pumpkin patch, get lost in a corn maze, take in some weekly live music, and (perhaps best of all) enjoy a craft beer, hard cider or wine in the taproom.

Be sure to take the kids on the weekends to take advantage of Fall Fun Land with five new attractions this year, including a mega slide, bounce pad, corny bin, and more!

Apple Orchards in Michigan: Schwallier’s Country Basket

Schwallier’s Farm has been a Sparta family fun destination since 1989. It offers u-pick apples and pumpkins, kids’ play area, a corn maze, a petting barn, and rides around the farm on a cow train. You can even schedule private bonfires with your family or friends on the weekend evenings in the fall for a unique country experience right on the farm. They also offer a great adventure going Michigan apple picking!

Don’t forget to check out the new back 40! Children and adults alike will enjoy running around among a John Deere combine tractor, rock maze, bouncy ball course, and a straw mountain. Top it off by shooting some apples out of their brand-new apple cannons!

Schwallier’s farm market also has warm donuts, fruit pies, and cider for you to enjoy at the farm or take home with you. They make apple cinnamon and pumpkin spice donuts topped with a variety of things, including sugar, salted caramel icing, and cream cheese.

Sprinkles Donut Shop

Sprinkles Donut Shop has some of the best Grand Rapids donuts and cinnamon rolls. They’re somehow classic recipes but feel modern at the same time. There are four locations in Ada, Allendale, Rockford, and Hudsonville.

The owner’s dad who founded the business used to say, “A donut is more than flour, sugar, and water…it takes equal parts love and experience with a dash of good old fashion intuition,” and that definitely comes across in the donuts made here. You’ll find classic cake and yeast donuts that are fluffy and flavorful. There are also cinnamon rolls that are out of this world (I personally recommend the cherry-frosted cinnamon roll, it can’t be beaten).

Marge’s Donut Den

Marge’s has been a staple of Wyoming, MI for over 40 years. This bakery has a large variety of donuts, muffins, and danishes, and even offers custom donut and cookie designs for your special occasion.

Marge’s Donut Den has a classic diner vibe, even down to the friendly atmosphere of regulars grabbing their daily coffee and donut. There’s an unbelievable selection made fresh each day, from bird’s nest donuts to peanut butter-filled donuts. The apple fritters are something special, too.

Sandy’s Donut House

This Westside Grand Rapids donut shop is the perfect place to stop for donuts and coffee before you head out to the Fruit Ridge orchards. 

They switch up their varieties daily and offer a bunch of fall favorites, including apple crisp donuts and pumpkin cream cheese muffins.

It’s best to get in early so you can pick the freshest donuts. If you want an idea of what’s available, they update the Sandy’s Donut House Facebook regularly with what they’re baking.
